Was Jesus A Socialist?

Christianity vs Socialist Marxism | HopeForLife

He who marries the spirit of the age soon becomes a widower.
—Dean William Inge

if Jesus was a socialist, then without a doubt, we would necessarily discover unending and overt support for socialism in Scripture.

Yet we see none. Not a single verse.

More importantly, we discover that socialism is wholeheartedly against God, His Word, His love, and His gospel. Without exaggeration, socialism always has been and always will be aggressively anti-Christian and anti-Christ in a multitude of ways.

Furthermore, the differences between socialism/social justice and Christianity are infinite—literally. Jesus and Marxism go together like … heaven and hell.

When we look at just a few characteristics, as outlined in this simple chart, we see that it is impossible for the two to be further apart.

If there are two things that could not be more irreconcilable, it would be Marxism and true Christianity. They are not in the same universe. Fire has far more in common with ice than Jesus has with socialism. And any attempt to mix Marxism and Christianity will only produce a counterfeit Christianity, which will in turn deceive and destroy countless people

The more pressing problem here, however, is that nothing could be more adversarial toward Christianity than Marxism. There is no denying this, especially after an objective reading of the facts already presented. Another troubling reality becomes clear when one realizes how many people actually think Marxism is a good idea, even going so far as to declare “Jesus was a socialist.” Believe it or not, their numbers are growing at an alarming rate.

Anyone who teaches that Christianity and socialism are compatible has lost all credibility. Everything they teach should be held in question, if not rejected, until they openly, fully, and genuinely repent of their deadly and anti-Christian teachings.

However, if, after seeing all the evidence, one still insists that Christ was a proponent and the fount of socialism, then they must also conclude that Jesus was the worst socialist ever. Such a person would be making a false and highly demeaning judgment about the Son of God. They would be manufacturing a “Jesus” who is foreign to Scripture, a counterfeit Jesus who will lead others astray into unending harm, perhaps for all eternity. Truly, is there anything that could be worse than that? (Matt 7:12-23; Gal 1:6-9; Jude 13)

Jesus and socialism cannot be reconciled. They are mutually exclusive in every meaningful area. Just as there is no accord with Christ and “Belial” (2 Cor 6:15), there is no harmonizing Jesus with Marxism, or Christianity with a Marxist state.

Despite what is glaringly obvious, many self-proclaiming Christ-followers will still try to integrate Marxism into Christianity. In so doing, they willfully and effectively squelch all hope for themselves. To make matters worse, to whatever degree they choose this way, they will deceive and hurt others, compromise and corrupt the church, proclaim “another Jesus” (i.e., a false Jesus), pervert the teachings of Christ, and, ultimately, present a counterfeit gospel (cp. 2 Cor 11:3-4; Gal 1:6-9).

But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted—you may well put up with it!  [ 2 Corinthians 11:3-4 ]

As a result, by teaching such things, or even just “putting up with it” (2 Cor 11:4), they will bear full responsibility for the results of their folly—the deception and destruction of people who have paid them heed. Is there anyone who would want that on their résumé—not to mention the ultimate consequences reserved for false teachers?

They are clouds without water, carried about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots; raging waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.  [ Jude 12-13 ]
